PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Pirates took advantage of a rattled Randy Johnson and a reversed home run call to beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-3 on Monday.
Johnson limited the Pirates to six singles and struck out three in 52‚Ñ3 innings but was hurt by three errors — including one by himself following an at-bat by Doug Mientkiewicz that visibly irritated him.
The benches and bullpens emptied briefly when Johnson left the mound and began walking toward home plate, yelling, after Mientkiewicz twice stepped out and was slow to get into the batter’s box with a 2-1 count.
