YOUNGSTOWN — Roth Brothers, defending champs, managed by Barry Wardle; Tri-County, managed by Steve Medved; Penn Ohio, managed by Jim Martin and Youngstown Metros, managed by Bob Mingo; will be competing in the Youngstown Class AA Baseball League (players 19 years and older) this season at Pemberton Park.
Mingo, director of the league, said, “The Warren AA League doesn’t want to compete in inter-league play with the Youngstown Class AA League, ending several years of competition.”
The four Class AA teams will play each other six times during the season and they will also compete against Andover, New Hamburgh, Jamestown and Hickory of Pennsylvania’s North County League.
Mingo is also director of the Tri-State Collegiate League (players 22-under) that will play a 38-game schedule at Pemberton Park.
In its third season, teams in the North Division are Allegheny Athletics, Toledo Monarchs Blue, Toledo Monarchs Gold, Pittsburgh Baseball Training Academy, Pittsburgh Pandas, Cleveland Shannon Fence, Twinsburg Twin City Blue Claws, Washington, Pa. Bluesox and the Metros.
The South Division will include Chillicothe Capitals, Columbus Big Kats, Columbus Hawks, Columbus Black Sharks, Columbus Blue Sharks, Ghanna Rockets, Columbus Sports Central and Zanesville Jr. Pioneers.
Some veteran Youngstown Metro players returning that Mingo will be counting on this season for both the Youngstown Class AA and Tri-State Collegiate teams are Anthony Porter of Boardman and Youngstown State, who is a catcher-DH (.360 average); CJ Morris, Canfield-YSU, shortstop-second base, (.300 average); Jim Pasquine, Poland-Washington & Jefferson, pitcher-third base-first base-catcher-outfield (.325 average); Joe Irwin, Mooney-Mount Union, first base-pitcher (.300 average) and Armani Johnson, Boardman, outfield (.300 average).
