READY TO SCRAMBLE: With plans completed for the YPD Charity Golf Outing at Pine Lakes Golf Club, the organizers, from left, Tony Tulipano, Laura Brown, Fred Losasso, and Police Chief Jimmy Hughes, are prepared to swing into action on the course.

A number of youth programs of the American Cancer Society will be supported by proceeds from the outing.

HUBBARD — Youngstown Police Department is seeking golfers to participate in its 17th annual YPD Charity Golf Outing on June 27 at Pine Lakes Golf Club, 6233 W. Liberty St.

Planned as a benefit for the youth programs of American Cancer Society, the tournament will begin with registration at 11 a.m., and play in the form of a scramble will begin with a shotgun start at noon.

The cost is $75 per player or $300 for a four-person team, and will include 18 holes of golf, a cart, snacks, prizes, skins, mulligans, beverages, lunch at 11:15 a.m. and a steak dinner at the conclusion of play.

Proceeds from the outing will be earmarked for such American Cancer Society programs as the following:

UCamp scholarships, so children and young adults who are being treated for cancer or who are in remission can attend an oncology or special interest camp.

UYouth Cancer Survivor Scholarship Program, which provides $1,000 scholarships to college-bound students 18-25 who were diagnosed with cancer before age 21. Recipients are chosen based on scholastic performance, community service and leadership.

UStay Tobacco-free Athlete Mentor Program (STAMP), in which high-school mentors teach younger students about the harmful effects of tobacco use and secondhand smoke.

UCoordinated School Health Education program, in which the American Cancer Society partners with schools, community members and local coalitions, to promote healthy school environments and lifestyle choices for children.

For a golf entry form or more information on the event, call the YPD at (330) 742-8718 or (330) 742-8951.
