Mathematics degree

Jared Michael Maruskin, former resident of Greenford, has received his doctor of philosophy degree from the University of Michigan in applied and interdisciplinary mathematics. He is the son of Jerry and Julie Maruskin, who live in Greenford.

Maruskin has done research in the fields of Space Situational Awareness, the goal of which is ultimately to obtain orbit determinations for all pieces of earth-orbiting space debris particles, and the geometric theory of nonholonomic mechanics and control, the applications of which range from ice skating to performing zero propellant, control moment gyro based optimal reorientation maneuvers of the International Space Station.

He has papers published in the Journal of Celestial Mechanicsand Dynamical Astronomy and the Astrophysical Journal.

Maruskin also recently received the prestigious Rackham Outstanding Graduate Student Instructor award, a campuswide award recognizing a handful of finishing graduate students for their excellence in teaching during their tenure at Michigan.

He received his master of science in applied and interdisciplinary mathematics from the University of Michigan in 2005 and his bachelor of science in engineering in engineering physics with a concentration in aerospace engineering, summa cum laude, from the University of Michigan in 2003. Maruskin graduated from South Range High School in North Lima as valedictorian in 1999.

He will be moving to the San Francisco Bay area this summer, having accepted a tenure track position as assistant professor at San Jose State University.

DOCTORS

Dental grad first in class

Dr. Andrew W. Bushey, son of Dr. Michael and Atty. Martha Bushey of Boardman, has received a doctor of dental medicine degree from Case Western Reserve University. Dr. Bushey graduated first in his class.

He was elected to the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Honor Society and received the American Academy of Oral Maxillofacial Pathology Award, American Association of Oral Maxillofacial Surgeons Award, American Dental Society of Anesthesiology Award and the International Congress of Oral Implantologists Award.

Dr. Bushey is beginning a five-year combined M.D./Oral Maxillofacial Surgery residency program at Case Western Reserve/University Hospital.

He is a 1998 graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School and attained a bachelor of business administration degree from the University of Notre Dame. Before enrolling in dental school, he played minor league baseball after being drafted by the Colorado Rockies. He is married to Atty. Kate Bushey.

Earns veterinary degree

Melissa A. DeLauter of Columbiana received her doctor of veterinary medicine degree today from Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine.

Dr. DeLauter graduated in 1998 from Columbiana High School. She received her degree in zoology from Miami University, Oxford, in 2002.

She is historian of her class and is a member of the Chapter of the American Veterinarian Medicine Association, American Association of Zoology of Veterinarians and Rural Animal Veterinary Service.

Dr. DeLauter will practice at White Oak Animal Hospital in Fredericksburg, Va.

She is the daughter of Richard and Barbara DeLauter of Columbiana and granddaughter of Mike and Dorothy Petro of Campbell, Virginia DeLauter of New Springfield and the late Roy DeLauter.
