Angels of Easter Seals elects its new officers

Published: Sun, June 8, 2008 @ 12:00 a.m.

YOUNGSTOWN — The election of officers who will head Angels of Easter Seals during the 2008-2009 season, the welcoming of four new members, and the review of fund-raising activities were on the agenda when members of the organization met recently at the Youngstown Club.

Deborah Liptak of Boardman was elected president of the Angels, and chosen as her associate officers were Phyllis Bacon, first vice president; Jacqueline Schweiger, second vice president; Donna Bruno, corresponding secretary; Jean Bennett, recording secretary; and Christine McElroy, treasurer. Betty Cmil is past president.

Liptak, the development director for the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County, serves on the board of directors for the YWCA, Youngstown State University Diversity Council, the Association of Fundraising Professionals, the Friends of Fellows Riverside Gardens, and the Friends of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County.

A graduate of Leadership Mahoning Valley, Liptak earned a degree in business at YSU. She is a past president of the Junior League of Youngstown, the Youngstown Symphony Guild and Penn-Ohio Women’s Tennis Association. She has been active with Boardman schools PTAs, and was a 2005 Athena nominee and the 2006 Community Service Award recipient from the YSU Student Diversity Council. She and her husband, Stephen, live in Boardman and have two children.

During the review of fund-raising activities, it was noted that the Angels raised $113,000 from such events as The Magic of an Angel’s Christmas, the Holiday Brunch and Sweet Shoppe, the Angels and Friends cookbooks, the Spring Style Show and Luncheon, and other projects.

Tentative plans were made for the Angels to present an American Girl Doll Style Show and Luncheon in March at Mr. Anthony’s.

Welcomed as new members were Pattie Ceglie, Caren Dalton, Atty. Renee DiSalvo-Lacivita and Gina Severino.
