Ad spending

Recent campaigns

The Nov. 4 race for Ohio attorney general threatens to be overshadowed by massive spending expected in the presidential race, particularly in swing states like Ohio. Some figures:

$8 million: What Democratic presidential contenders Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton spent in Ohio leading up to the state’s March primary.

$4.5 million: What candidates for Ohio attorney general spent, combined, on advertising in 2006.

$86,000: What candidates for Ohio attorney general spent, combined, on advertising in 2002.

$3 billion: Nationwide spending on political advertising expected in 2008 — a figure that is up 30 percent form 2006 and 77 percent from 2004.
