The General Lee from ‘The Dukes of Hazzard’ will be on the scene.
NILES — Travis Bowen and Joe Mohn are bringing a small piece of Hollywood to the Mahoning Valley this weekend.
The duo noted for promoting the Dark Xmas sci fi-horror movie conventions have teamed up to put on the Eerie Frequency Hollywood Memorabilia Expo at the Eastwood Expo Center Friday through Sunday.
It’s a first for the promoter/filmmaker team.
“This is something new for me,” said Bowen. “I’ve only done horror conventions before and this is my first venture into mainstream pop culture, but I did also include a few horror guests with this show. I was looking for something new since I’ve been doing just strictly horror shows with some sci-fi for five years.”
A slate of actors and actresses — including Joyce DeWitt and Priscilla Barnes of the sitcom “Three’s Company” — will make appearances at the three-day event. Memorabilia from movies will be on display and numerous vendors will offer a variety of wares. The celebrities will do question and answer sessions with fans.
“This will be a very fun show,” said Bowen. “Not only will there be celebrities appearing but there will also be vehicles at the show like an authentic Herbie The Love Bug from two of the Disney movies, and replicas of the ‘Starsky Hutch’ Ford Torino, and the General Lee and sheriff’s car from ‘The Dukes Of Hazzard.’”
Those who attend might also find themselves in a movie. Mohn and Bowen will hold casting calls for their upcoming films “The Girl” and “Presque Isle” at the expo.
Bowen got his start in horror films as an actor in 2002 and has gone on to direct and produce other locally-made low-budget movies. As an actor he has appeared in more than a dozen films, and he has directed two.
This summer, he will release his second movie, “Shadows In the Woods,” the cast of which includes the final appearance of “Star Wars” and “Indiana Jones” actor Michael Sheard. His next projects will be producing a horror film by Mohn called, “The Girl,” and directing the sci-fi horror movie, “Presque Isle.”
Mohn is also an actor who was featured in the movies, “Shadows In the Woods,” and “Toxic Shock Zombies.”
After he wraps up “The Girl,” he’ll start production on his next film, “Dreams May Come True.” He will also co-star in Bowen’s “Presque Isle.” He is also a special effects makeup artist.
