Some BP gas customers charged twice

Published: Thu, July 31, 2008 @ 12:00 a.m.

COLUMBUS (AP) — Some BP gasoline customers are upset after their recent trip to the pump was made doubly painful by a software glitch.

BP spokesman Scott Dean says at certain older service stations motorists were billed twice last weekend when they paid at the pump using a credit or debit card. He says the oil company has received reports that it happened at locations in the Columbus and Cleveland areas in Ohio and in parts of Indiana.

Dean says BP apologizes and is in the process of issuing refunds. He says the company also will cover any overdraft fees if the error pushed customers beyond their account limits.
