South Side man charged with damage at Subway restaurant

Published: Wed, July 30, 2008 @ 1:42 p.m.

YOUNGSTOWN — Police took a South Side man into custody after a large rock was thrown through the front door glass at Subway on East Midlothian Boulevard and the cash register broken around 2:30 a.m. today.

Jake Turner Jr., 51, of Market Street was arrested on charges of breaking and entering and criminal damaging. He was expected to be arraigned later today in municipal court.

A witness who ran out of his house after hearing a crash flashed a spot light on the suspect and let police know where he could be found. Turner was found nearby, sitting on a bench in the 800 block of East Midlothian.

The restaurant manager told police nothing was missing but the property damage to door and register was valued at $800.
