Delphi Packard will close its Cortland plant

Published: Wed, July 30, 2008 @ 1:43 p.m.

Delphi Packard Electric has informed its workers that it plans to close its plastic molding plant in Cortland.

Union leaders are looking into whether they can stop the closing, said Mike O’Donnell, shop chairman for Local 717 of the International Union of Electrical Workers. Union leaders believe their labor contract requires the plant to be kept open.

O’Donnell said Packard intends to consolidate the Cortland operations into its Vienna plant, so the 70 hourly workers in Cortland should retain their jobs. He said no closing date has been set, but he expects it to be at least six months away.
