Firefighters save dog found in burning house

Published: Fri, July 25, 2008 @ 10:39 a.m.

YOUNGSTOWN — A dog found in the smoky kitchen at 429 W. Myrtle Ave. was resuscitated by firefighters and turned over to the dog warden for temporary care Thursday evening. Firefighters found heavy smoke when they arrived at the South Side house around 6:45 p.m. No one was home. The fire appeared to start in the living room, just inside the front door, where an electrical power strip with several appliances plugged in was found, reports show. A “V” burn pattern was visible on the inside wall, extending up and burning through the ceiling. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage to the house and contents was set at $7,500.
