Beatitude House kids sell lemonade for charity

staff report

YOUNGSTOWN — If you are traveling along Fifth Avenue between 5 and 6:30 p.m. today, you’ll see a group of children from Beatitude House operating a lemonade stand at the corner of Fifth and Lora avenues. A cold glass of lemonade is 25 cents.

The children, who are learning to give back to the community by raising money for charity, live with their mothers in the transitional housing at Beatitude House. These children, who were homeless, have found a way to give to others in need.

Katie Guerrero, child advocate for Beatitude House, oversees the operation. The children will donate the money to Akron Children’s Cancer Center or an area nursing home. Projects such as this help teach the children the importance of helping others in the community.

A previous effort by the children netted $23.

Beatitude House helps disadvantaged women and children in the Mahoning Valley by providing transitional housing and education opportunities and fostering healthy families. For more information, visit www.beatitudehouseonline.org or call (330) 744-3147.
