Astro Falcons shut out Northville, 10-0

NORTHVILLE, Mich. — Astros Falcons will play twice today after beating the host Northville (MI.) Broncos, 10-0, Thursday in the opening game of the NABF Junior World Series for 16-and-under players.

Starter Jacob Dando struck out seven in pitching a one-hitter over six innings and Raul Pizzaro’s five RBIs provided most of the Astros’ offense.

Kyle Kessner followed Dando and pitched a hitless seventh.

The lone hit by Northville — a town 40 minutes from Detroit — was registered in the fourth inning.

Pizzaro’s contribution came via two singles. Matt Semach added a two-run single and Sutton Whiting scored three runs.

In pool play, the Ron Taylor-managed Astros play the Long Island Titans at 9 a.m. and again at 3 p.m. against the St. Louis Tigers.

Kolin Stanley is expected to pitch against Long Island.

The Astro Falcons (31-9) were Little B League runners-up to Rondinelli, then won five straight games to capture the NABF Junior regional at Cene Park.

Canfield Little League

SOUTH POINT — Zach Kuchmaner hit a double scoring Jarret Vrabel with the winning run, as Canfield defeated Dover, 4-3, in the 12-year-old Little League state tournament Thursday.

Canfield’s other runs came on a solo home run by Jimmy Leone and a two-run homer by Joey Kleeh.

Edmond Pilolli started for Canfield and allowed one hit in four innings. gave up 1 hit in 4 innings. Kuchmaner relieved, allowing one hit in two innings. They combined for 10 strikeouts.

Canfield will play Mount Vernon for the state championship today at noon.

Tuesday Mount Vernon defeated Canfield 10-0. Colton Crissman had a hit for Canfield.

Class AA

YOUNGSTOWN — Sending 12 batters to the plate in the second inning, Youngstown Metros scored six runs on the way to a five-inning 10-0 victory over Tri-County in the first game of a best-of-5 series in the Youngstown Class AA League playoffs Wednesday at Pemberton-Donnell Park.

Four walks, singles by Dom Silvestri, Mike Hoelzal and Dom Modarelli and a triple by Anthony Porter produced the runs.

Jim Jaskowak pitched a two-hitter with six strikeouts to pick up the win. Armani Johnson, Porter and Hoelzal each had two hits. Matt Kearney hit a triple for Tri-County.
