Woman draws new sentence for break-in

The new sentence cannot be appealed.

YOUNGSTOWN — A woman sentenced to two years in prison for a Jan. 30 Canfield home burglary will serve a concurrent one-year prison term for a break-in Dec. 31 or Jan. 1 at a New Middletown restaurant.

Judge R. Scott Krichbaum of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court imposed the concurrent sentence Friday on Joanne Douglas, 40, of the Marysville Reformatory, formerly of Youngstown, immediately after she pleaded guilty to the restaurant break-in.

Douglas was indicted on a separate breaking-and-entering charge in the restaurant break-in on June 27.

The sentence for the crime at the DeChellis Restaurant was agreed to by the prosecution and defense and became nonappealable when the judge adopted it.

On June 13, Judge Krichbaum gave Douglas the two-year term at Marysville for the burglary at the Bradford Drive home of Darlene DeChellis, where Douglas had been a cleaning woman.

Police said DeChellis came home unexpectedly Jan. 30 and surprised Douglas’ brother-in-law, John Douglas, 35, of Youngstown, inside. DeChellis chased him to his getaway car, where Richard Cummings, 35, of Lynn Avenue, waited behind the wheel.

Police said Joanne Douglas helped her co-defendants plan the home burglary based on her knowledge of DeChellis’ routines.

Judge Krichbaum sentenced John Douglas and Cummings to 36-month and 18-month prison terms, respectively, last month after they pleaded guilty to the home burglary and restaurant break-in.
