Baird’s condition is stable

AKRON — Former SteelHounds hockey player Jason Baird is in stable condition at the Akron Burn Center after he was seriously burned Thursday when the lawn mower he was riding exploded.

Baird’s wife, Bethany, said Saturday that despite suffering burns over 60-65 percent of his body, he is responding to those around him.

He is fully aware of his situation,” Mrs. Baird said. “He’s responded very well, letting us know that he knows we’re here. He is holding his own.”
