EX-Steelhound player burned in lawn mower explosion

AUSTINTOWN — A former Youngstown Steelhounds hockey player was seriously burned Thursday evening when the lawn mower that he was riding exploded.

Jason Baird, 27, of Cayuga, Ontario, was cutting grass for a part-time employer at the Westchester apartment complex near the intersection of Route 11 and Mahoning Avenue when the accident occurred.

He is listed in critical condition at the Akron Burn Center.
