SPECIAL TO THE VINDICATOR

NEW MIDDLETOWN — Longtime village police officer Vince D’Egidio has been named police chief to succeed Chief William Morvay, who is retiring. New Middletown Village Council unanimously chose D’Egidio this week.

D’Egidio takes over Sept. 1. He was hired as a patrolman in June 1982 and became a sergeant in 2001. Council will negotiate a contract with D’Egidio and set his salary at that time.

Council agreed to give Morvay two extra vacation days and pay him for accumulated sick leave. They also accepted the resignation of Police Sgt. Ken Goist from the village fire department. Goist resigned because of time conflicts.

In other business, council also agreed to a transfer of a D-1 liquor license for Potosino’s Mexican Grill, which is set to open on Youngstown-Pittsburgh Road on Aug. 1 in the building that formerly housed The Tiger’s Table.

The restaurant already has a license to serve liquor and the transfer of the D-1 license will allow beer to be served. Stephen Lukac, operations manager, said that the business owner is Mid-Toll Inc., and that the beer license is being transferred from a Mid-Toll facility in Williams County. He said the company expects to be leasing the restaurant here.
