COLUMBIANA Health commissioner

Published: Wed, July 16, 2008 @ 12:00 a.m.

Columbiana County Health Commissioner Robert Morehead, who is free on bond, has repaid thousands of dollars in questionable expenses. He is awaiting trial on theft and forgery charges. An audit of 2006 and 2007 is under way. Here is the updated information:

The Ohio Auditor’s Office said from the most recent audit for 2004, Morehead has not paid $681.30. The latest findings include:

$233.17 he spent to buy books from Waldenbooks and Barnes Noble Booksellers that didn’t help the health district. Receipts from Waldenbooks did not state the title nor give a description. Receipts from Barnes Noble gave book titles that include “Golf Holes,” “Clarke’s Pocket Wine Book,” “Shut Up and Sing.”

$364.03 for “gift items” and clothing at the University Bookstore in Kent, Ohio, and a cell phone face plate.

$84.10 for gasoline and a carwash while he was supposed to be reimbursed 32 cents a mile for travel.

Repaid thousands of dollars? Got to love it. Only in Columbiana county can you steal, get caught and then just simply pay it back! Isn't stealing... STEALING, like against the law? Paying it back? Isn't that like admitting you did it? I need to remember this when I steal a loaf of bread from a store and when I get caught I will just pay it back. How hilarious can this get?
