Penn-Ohio Tigers fall 20-12 to Pittsburgh

Published: Tue, July 15, 2008 @ 12:00 a.m.

CANFIELD — The Penn-Ohio Tigers were defeated by the Pittsburgh Colts, 20-12, in a Grassroots Professional Football League game Saturday night.

The Tigers took a 3-0 lead on a 30-yard field goal by Bill Adelman (Rootstown) in the first quarter, then scored nine points in the second quarter on a 5-yard scoring pass from quarterback Ray Marrow (South) to receiver Troy Duhe (Crestview), and another field goal by Adelman.

That gave the Tigers a 12-6 lead.

Pittsburgh took advantage of three turnovers by the Tigers in the second half to regain the lead.

“The turnovers really hurt us in the second half,” Tigers coach Rick Razzano said. “It forced our defense too play way too many snaps which took its toll on them.

“The Colts are a 29-year old franchise with a roster full of ex-college stars. We are a first-year franchise with a majority of former high school players and we were only a few plays away from winning the game.”

The Tigers travel to Rochester, N.Y., on Saturday to play the Rochester Renegades. The Tigers’ next home game at Canfield High Stadium is July 26 against the Trumbull County Panthers at 7 p.m.
