Bids accepted for library facility

The board is still seeking a contractor for the building’s flooring.

YOUNGSTOWN — The board of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County has accepted bids totaling $2.15 million for construction of the new East Side library branch.

Library officials hope to break ground on the new branch — to be built at the intersection of East High Avenue and Early Road — within weeks, said Janet Loew, library spokeswoman. Construction is expected to be complete this fall, she said.

At $1.3 million, Boardman-based Brock Builders Inc. submitted the lowest bid for general trade work, Loew said.

Other low bids included:

UPlumbing, $79,179, Ellyson Plumbing and Heating Co., Salem.

UElectrical, $268,990, Dickey Electric Inc., North Lima.

UWindows and exterior doors, $229,865, Gunton Corporation, Cleveland.

UMechanical, $109,800, York Mahoning Mechanical Contractors, Youngstown.

UCasework, $65,464, Interior Products Inc., Cleveland.

ULandscape/Pavers, $103,738, Landscape by Design, Youngstown.

The library is seeking a final contractor to complete the building’s flooring, Loew added. That portion of the project is anticipated to cost about $35,000, she said. Boardman-based 4M Company is handling the architectural plans for the building.

The 9,000-square-foot library will replace the current East Side branch on North Jackson Street. That branch — built in the 1930s — is in a state of disrepair, Loew said, and at 1,500 square feet, offers limited library space.
