State wrestling odds and ends

Published: Fri, February 29, 2008 @ 10:11 p.m.

Here's a look at the state championship matchups for the four Valley kids going for titles:

Division I

145 pounds: Tony Jameson (Fitch) vs. T.J. Rigel (Tecumseh)

Division II

125 pounds: Kyle Leek (Howland) vs. Tucker Armstrong (St. Paris Graham)

135 pounds: Greg Ryan (Howland) vs. Chase Skonieczny (Walsh Jesuit)

160 pounds: Jon Bittenger (Beaver Local) vs. Eric Cubberly (Eastwood)

Former Fitch wrestler Derick Fletcher was honored as the 2007 Division II Coach of Year in a ceremony prior to Friday night's wrestling. Fletcher, who was a state placer at Fitch, coached Ravenna to a state runner-up finish in last year's state tournament.

On Saturday night, Fitch coach Brett Powell will be one of three coaches inducted into the state's coaching Hall of Fame.

In case anyone is interested in watching Tony Jameson's first-round match from Thursday, here is the link. Jameson rallied from a 20-18 deficit in the third period to win 23-20:
