Obama to come to YSU to rally supporters

Published: Sat, February 16, 2008 @ 12:45 a.m.

Obama attended an invitation-only fundraiser in Boardman last year.

STAFF/WIRE REPORTS

YOUNGSTOWN — Leading Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama will be in Youngstown on Monday.

The Illinois senator will have a “Keeping America’s Promise Rally” at Youngstown State University’s Beeghly Center, the Ohio Obama for America campaign said in a press release Friday night.

Doors open at Beeghly at noon, with Obama speaking at 2 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Space is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Tickets are not required, but RSVPs are encouraged. To RSVP, go to the Web site http://oh.barackobama.com/youngstown.

For security reasons, no bags are allowed, and those attending should limit personal belongings. No signs or banners are permitted, the release says.

The rally will be Obama’s second visit to the Mahoning Valley. He attended a private fundraising event in June at the Boardman home of businessman Herb Washington, owner of the Youngstown Steelhounds professional hockey team.

Nearly 100 people shelled out between $1,000 and $2,300 to attend the invitation-only event.

On Friday, Obama collected a key labor endorsement and coaxed away one of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton’s delegates.

He won the endorsement of the 1.9 million-member Service Employees International Union, one day after he collected the support of the United Food and Commercial Workers, a politically active union with 69,000 members in Ohio and an additional 26,000 in Texas. The food workers also have 19,000 members in Wisconsin, which holds a primary Tuesday.

A poll of Wisconsin voters released Friday found Obama with only a slight edge over Clinton in a state he was expected to win.

Recent polls in Ohio and Pennsylvania show Clinton with a more than 15-percentage point advantage.

Sarah Swisher, an SEIU member from Iowa City, switched from Clinton to Obama after her union’s endorsement.

Attention: Ohio. Memo from Texas.

Thanks, New Mexico. Hillary has just won another Southwest State. With a win in Texas that will make it a complete Southwest sweep. Attention Texas: Do not let the Obamas fool you. They do not understand the Southwest the way that Hillary does. The Obamas have no key personnel on their staff who are from Texas. Their Texas lead staff consist of people from Illionis, Massachusetts and Washington DC. Now you why California, Arizona, New Nexico & Nevada voted overwhelmingly for Hillary for President. Lets make it a complete Southwest sweep Texas votes for Hillary.

The Obamas want the country to rely on hope. Well hope and a dime won't buy you a coke.

If the Obamas screw Hillary I like millions of other Mexican Americans will vote for John McCain. Forty four (44) percent of the Latinos voted republican instead of for Democrat John Kerry in the last general election.

Ohio, Hillary needs you now more than ever. Join us Texans and cast your vote for Hillary.

Hillary will change the future with her experience. You go girl!

Buena Suerte, Senora Presidente

This state knows how bad our country needs a change perhaps more than most others. I can't tell you how many folks I know here who have lost their jobs.

I am a 23 year old who does NOT want to see Hillary Clinton win. I just can't fathom having most of my life being run by the same people. Bush, Clinton, Bush, Clinton? No thanks. Let's get rid of the liars and vote for someone who actually tells us the truth, not what we want to hear.

Read Obama's books, he admits to mistakes he made in his past and tells how he has learned from them. What do the others do? Lie through their teeth, sorry to say, even Bill. "I did not inhale," wow! Once again, why vote for people who just tell you what you want to hear as opposed to the truth.

Besides, he actually has promise of uniting the country. Getting past party lines (which Hillary cannot do because the right is too polarized by her) and also moving past hundreds of years of race issues.

What everyone needs to remember is that he is both Black AND white.

Instead of more of the same, vote for change. Obama '08!
