Warren, Howland firefighters battle blaze at plaza

WARREN — Warren and Howland firefighters battled a two-alarm blaze in Market Square Plaza, which heavily damaged the interior decorating store where it originated and caused smoke damage to eight other storefronts Sunday afternoon.

The blaze, reported at 3:19 p.m. in the strip plaza at 5000 E. Market St., S.E., originated in the Nouveau Interiors shop, which suffered the most fire and smoke damage, the Warren fire department said.

All shops were closed when the fire erupted.

One firefighter strained his neck and back while battling the blaze.

The cause is still under investigation, but the blaze is not believed to be suspicious, the fire department said.

No damage estimate was available.

Shops suffering smoke damage were the Beltone Hearing Aid Center, the dental office of Dr. Robert Trimbur, the Mi Lady clothing shop, Bailey’s Pub, Eastwood Quick Print, the Simply Tall women’s apparel shop and two vacant storefronts.
