Warren police continue investigation of shooting

WARREN — Police continue to investigate a Tuesday afternoon shooting that sent a man in his 20s to the hospital. The man, who was not identified, called 911 around 2:30 p.m. and met police officers at the corner of Second Street and Highland Avenue.

At first, he said only that there had been shooting inside the house, in the 400 block of Second Street Southwest. But later, he told officers he had been shot in the upper back, said Patrolman Reuben Shaw. Officers went to the house, where a woman believed to be the victim’s girlfriend and her son were located. After a time, the two came out of the house for questioning. No charges had been filed as of late Tuesday afternoon, Shaw said.

Senate honors veterans

COLUMBUS — The state Senate passed legislation Tuesday honoring veterans from throughout northeastern Ohio, including bills designating the interchange at state Routes 45 and 82 in Champion the Sgt. Robert M. Carr Memorial Interchange, and the interchange of U.S. Route 422 and state Route 82 in Warren the Sgt. Marco Miller Memorial Interchange.

Carr, 22, an Army veteran from Fowler, died in Iraq on March 13, 2007, and Miller, 36, of Florida, also an Army veteran and a former Warren G. Harding football player, died in Germany from injuries he received in a mortar attack in Iraq in December 2006.
