HUBBARD — The Christmas parade set for 6 p.m. Saturday in the city has been canceled and will not be rescheduled, city officials said.
Why are they cancelling the parade? I feel for the senior majoretts and the senior band players this would be their last parade as the Musical Pride of Hubbard.
According to the story that was just on TV the Hubbard parade is cancelled because the city can't afford to pay the police overtime for their services during the parade. I guess it is too much to expect the police to DONATE a few hours of their precious time in the spirit of the holidays. After all, other prople involved in the parade is working free of charge. Hubbard is truly the Epicenter of Greed in this area. And if you think the citizens are incensed over the parade situation, wait until they find out that their pampered, greedy city employees are the ONLY members of AFSME in the world who won't accept any consessions and, in fact, will expect RAISES! In the financial climate of today's world that is just simply GREED in its most pure, shameful form. And just who is negotiating the new contract with these unsupervised employees? The Mayor, that's who, King Arthur has a son-in-law who will benefit from the outcome of the contract. Isn't this a conflict of interest? And the final question, why have employees of the Hubbard electric department been working without a superintendent for FIVE years? It is no wonder excessive overtime is going unchecked. There is no accountability when the inmates are running the asylum, as I've heard it so aptly said. The decicions are being made by a "foreman" who's father just happens to be on Hubbard City Council. Aha!
That would explain why tihga are messed up. Hubbard can't be the only place where these kinds of things are happeneing.
What happened to all of the auxiliary police men that use to be used for things like this? I don't understand what is going on in this city.
hubbardguyWhat does your post have to do with the parade? Seems to me your factless criticisms have another agenda. It is spelled AFSCME and I would think they have nothing to do with the cancellation. We should be more concerned about all who will not get to enjoy an annual event.
Why do you think they canceled it hen? They said they don't have enough money to pay the police to direct the parade. Now the question is why not.
From what I understand, the lack of funds is due to the new lighting project in the city. I'm having a hard time understanding how the city can afford to let thier new SUV, or another cruiser, sit and run, to supervise the company working on the new project, which requires an officer to be there, and not patroling. Does this mean that there have been extra police officers on duty so that a company, which should have it's own personelle for traffic control, can do what so many other companies do without police supervision everyday? I don't understand the reasoning here. Children may not get to see Santa in a parade, people may have spent hundreds on supplies for floats and candy all for nothing, and there won't be any musical pride or big red fire trucks... but Hubbards finest won't have to stand around for less than thier overtime wages. I hope the FOP understands the negative effect this has on the public view of the PD. I thought that they worked FOR the community.
SOme work for a apycheck, others don't work if they don't egt paid enough. I knew they were wasting money somewhere but come on they don't have enough fr a parade, crazy.
Geez people, get a grip! Yes, no parade is disappointing, but not devastation! Better than laying off Police like neighboring city Warren is doing! Non-essential cuts are what good city operators do to avoid going broke. When I was growing up in Hubbard, we didn't have the parade, and this was only about 10 years ago. I saw Santa at the Mall and still was a happy kid! When economy is good, extras are a treat. Tough times call for cuts, and better to cut a 1-hour event than cut your Police Staff!
No Hubbard isn't the only place where things like this are happening. But it's crappy when the band and the majorettes have practiced for this event, and many parents and students spent a lot of hours making floats just for the Christmas parade only to have it cancelled at the last minute. What in the world is happening with Hubbard? If you don't have money for it, they why say you'll have a parade? Is there no accountability?
I wouldn't want the police to have to police an event unpaid- why would people expect this? Also, are you positive that it's legal for off-duty cops to work on their own time? Plus, whoever organized the parade was supposed to clear it with the police first THEN post the date, time, place- it's not the police(wo)men's fault this wasn't done.
But did the first say they would policce it thn turn around a couple weeks later and say sorry we don't have the money?
