WARREN — The city will be living history June 30 with a World War II encampment at the Riverwalk near the Community Amphitheatre.

The encampment is part of Ohio Chautauqua activities sponsored by the Fine Arts Council of Trumbull County, in cooperation with the Warren Trumbull Public Library.

Ohio Chautauqua offers local music entertainment, theater and living history presentations. It will run from June 26-30.

Warren is one of five cities that the Ohio Humanities Council chose to host the event.

On June 30, the 4th Armored Division of the World War II Vehicle Museum and Learning Center in Hubbard will be dressed in costume and give a live history presentation under the Chautauqua tent.

What you’ll see

The indoor museum offers more than 52,000 square feet. Some vehicles displayed include an M-18 Tank Destroyer known as the “Hellcat,” an M5 3-inch Anti-Tank Gun and the Maxson Mount on a M16A1 Halftrack.

Jan Vaughn, library assistant director, said she thought there were only civil war re-enactments and is excited to see one based on World War II. “I really wasn’t aware that there were World War II re-enactments,” she noted.

Re-enactor Gordon Smith said war vehicles will be on display and he hopes to educate people about the life of soldiers.

He said the performances aren’t action scenes that everyone sees in the movies, but more the day to day life of soldiers.

“It’s an entertaining yet educational experience for the entire family,” he said.
