Local musician's now devoted to Devotees

Published: Wed, July 25, 2007 @ 12:31 p.m.

As one note ends, another begins.

That’s literally what happened to guitarist-keyboardist Dave Buker last fall when as a member of the veteran Youngstown rock act Minkus, the band decided to call it quits. It was during one of the band’s last shows when guest trumpeter Justin Hite sparked Buker’s musical imagination.

Little did both players know at the time, the result would be folk-inspired indie rock outfit the Devotees, which finds Buker out front with a host of others — Hite, Jenna Barvitski (violin, vocals, keyboards), Jake Pruitt (guitar), Eric Tharp (bass, harmonica) and Jared Buker (drums, keyboards) — sharing the vision.

The band will perform Friday night at Cedar's in Youngstown.
