U.S. Rep. Phil English (R-Pa.) announced the inclusion of $300,000 in federal funds for renovations at the Buhl Farm Casino in H.R. 3074, the Departments of Transportation, and Housing and Urban Development, and related agencies appropriations bill for fiscal year 2008.
"For more than 90 years, the Buhl Farm Casino has served as a staple in the Mercer County community, helping to bring together local families and friends for a variety of social gatherings and community activities," English said. "Today, I am delighted to announce funding that will help preserve the Shenango Valley's history and ensure future generations can continue to experience the joys of our local community center."
English requested the funding as part of the Buhl Farm Trust's long-term plan to renovate and rebuild the Buhl Farm Casino. The Casino, located at Buhl Farm Park in Hermitage, Pa., originally opened to the public in January of 1915. The imposing structure has always been the showpiece of the 350-acre park, and although still in use, the deteriorating condition of the Casino jeopardized the safety of the building. The $300,000 in federal funds will be used to remodel and renovate the building to meet modern day building codes and regulations.
