3 men arraigned in Niles standoff

NILES — Three Niles men involved in a standoff with police Friday were arraigned today in municipal court.

Joseph A. Leasock, 41, of Pratt Street, was ordered held on $250,000 bond by Judge Thomas W. Townley on charges of aggravated robbery, drug abuse and being a convicted felon is possession of a firearm.

Shawn E. Davis, 22, and Richard W. Calderwood, 27, both also of Pratt, also appeared before Judge Townley, who continued their bonds at $1,000 surety each. They are charged with obstruction official business.

They are scheduled to appear in court Wednesday for preliminary hearings. Leasock remains jailed, and Davis and Calderwood were released Friday.

They were charged after a 2-1/2-hour standoff at an apartment house at 450 Mason St. that police say started when Leasock robbed the bartender at nearly Stredney’s, a tavern at Mason and Cedar street.
