Butler's Midyear show runs through Aug. 26

YOUNGSTOWN — The Butler Institute of American Art, 524 Wick Ave., is presenting the 71st National Midyear show through Aug. 26.

The National Midyear, an annual juried show, surveys the current trends in American painting and other two-dimensional work, and presents pieces by artists living in the United States or in U.S. territories. The show was judged by Larry Salander, an American gallery owner.

“After 70 years, the Butler’s Midyear Show has taken on a new personality,” said Louis Zona, Butler director. “The inclusion of photography, drawing, printmaking and digital imaging has impacted the overall look and feel of the show. While narrative art still rules, in all media and categories, it is great to see that creativity is alive and well in our nation.”

Entries to the show were made by 281 artists from 34 states, and 768 images were submitted to be juried. Ninety-nine artists are in the exhibition, with 127 pieces comprising the show.
