Tri-City powers past Scrappers

Charles Gamble hit two homers as the Valley Cats rolled 8-2.

TROY, N.Y. — Charles Gamble hit his first two homers of the season to power Tri-City over Mahoning Valley, 8-2, Sunday in a New York-Penn League game.

Gamble hit a two-run shot in the first inning and a solo blast in the fourth.

Matthew Cusick added hits and two RBIs for the ValleyCats (7-16).

Starter Jeff Icenogle (1-1) got the win after yielding a run on four hits and one walk with three strikeouts in 52⁄3 innings to lower his ERA to 2.08.

Scrappers starter Jonathan Holt (0-2) gave up three runs on three hits with a strikeout in three innings.

Todd Martin singled in a run in the first for the Scrappers (12-14), who have now lost three straight.

Matthew Brown hit a double and single for Mahoning Valley, and Alex Castillo hit a sacrifice fly in the eighth.
