Fire ruled suspcious at vacant Kmart in Neshannock

Published: Thu, July 12, 2007 @ 6:27 p.m.

NESHANNOCK, Pa. — Township fire Chief John DiCola said a fire this afternoon that damaged the roof of a vacant storefront appears suspicious.

Work on the roof of the building, the former Kmart, on state Route 18 had stopped for the afternoon and there was no access to the roof when the work crews left. DiCola said that when firefighters arrived shortly before 5 p.m., a ladder had been erected to the roof. Police are investigating.

DiCola had no damage estimate. Firefighters from Neshannock were joined by those from New Wilmington, South New Castle and Mahoning Township. The damage was mostly to the roof, but the inside of the building received smoke damage, DiCola said.
