HARRY POTTER | The tale and tickets

Published: Tue, July 10, 2007 @ 12:00 a.m.

BASIC PLOT

Following the book’s story line: When Dementors, the guards of the Azkaban prison who feed off of happiness and consume humans’ souls, attack Harry and his cousin Dudley during summer vacation, he uses magic to protect them.

Underage wizards such as Harry are not allowed to use magic outside school, so he is taken to his godfather Sirius Black’s house and headquarters of the Order of the Phoenix, a secret group dedicated to fighting Voldemort. Harry faces a disciplinary hearing at the Ministry of Magic, but Hogwarts Headmaster Dumbledore clears Harry’s name.

The new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher Dolores Umbridge, a Ministry employee, won’t teach any spells, so Harry and friends Ron and Hermione create Dumbledore’s Army, a group to learn and practice defense spells.

Harry begins having disturbing dreams, which are invasions by Voldemort.

Dumbledore demands Harry learn occlumency from Professor Snape, which will prevent his mind from being read. Harry fails at occlumency, and the army group is caught by Umbridge. Dumbledore takes responsibility for the group and resigns. Umbridge takes over his position.

Harry has another dream where Sirius is being held captive and tortured by Voldemort, so Harry tries to save him. This is a trap, and Harry, many of his friends and members from the Order fight Death Eaters, Voldemort’s supporters. While this is happening, Death Eater Bellatrix Lestrange kills Sirius. Dumbledore stops the fight and tells Harry about the prophecy that states Harry will destroy Voldemort — or Voldemort will destroy Harry.
