Livi Steel rallies for win in Mantle game

Rondinelli beat Dave Sugar in a Class B playoff.

STRUTHERS — Livi Steel, behind 4-3, scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning then held on to post a 8-7 victory over the Wadsworth Warriors Saturday in the Mickey Mantle tournament at Cene Park.

Zach McGhee (1-0) worked four innings, allowed five hits and four runs to pick up the win for Livi Steel.

Chris Lieby hit four singles for Livi, while Mike Livi hit a pair of doubles and drove in three runs. Don Hayes hit a double and single for the Warriors (0-1).

Hawks 7, Wharmby 3

STRUTHERS — Jason Burkes, Ben Bechtol, and Garrett Herald all had two hits, each contributing a double, and each scoring a run for Wharmby. Jason Federber, Evan Anzio, and Bechtol each had an RBI in the game for Wharmby.

Rondinelli 9, Ohio Bombers 1

STRUTHERS — Cory Hill went four innings and allowed only one run on four hits. Jason Bagoly led the attack for Rondinelli with three hits, including a double and an RBI. Brad Byers added two hits. Dru Petro hit a triple.

Astros 17, Livi Steel l0

STRUTHERS — Shane Wagner led Astro’s 16-hit attack with three, which were a double and two triples. Ryan Rovnak, Jared Kirin, Mike Natale and Phillips Woods added two hits apiece. Jay Rowland had two hits for Livi Steel.

R&J Trucking 7, Diamond Sports 6

STRUTHERS — R&J won it in the bottom of the eighth inning. Bo Beegle, Ricky Segesto, and Joe Strawinski all had two hits. Strawinski hit a double and drove in two runs.

Diamond 8, Wharmby 0

STRUTHERS — Diamond’s Nick Slogik pitched a no-hitter. Diamond hit four triples and a double.

R&J Trucking 10, Hawks 9

STRUTHERS — R&J Trucking posted the victory scoring the winning run with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning. Joey Aulizia led the attack with three hits. Ricky Segesto, Joe Strawinski, and Tim Schiraldi each added two hits. Schiraldi drove in three runs.

Ohio Bombers 8, Dave Sugar 4

STRUTHERS — The Bombers had two players lead the way with two hits. Dave Sugar lost for the second time in the tournament.

Rondinelli 13, Diamond Boys 8

STRUTHERS — Anthony Franceshelli got the win going 51⁄3 innings. Franceshelli, James Shephard and Cory Hill all had three hits.

Class B Playoffs

Rondinelli 11, Dave Sugar 1

STRUTHERS — In the first game of the second round, Rondinelli’s Jim Kinnick went six innings, allowing only an unearned run on two hits, striking out five. Cory Hitt led the attack with three hits, including a triple.

Youngstown AA League

YOUNGSTOWN — Youngstown Metros posted a 1-0 victory over New Hamburgh Friday at Oakland Field.

Jim Pasquine of Metros tossed a two-hitter to pick up the win.

Metros scored the only run in the fifth inning as Joe Irwin reached base on an error and moved to second on a bunt single by C.J. Morris. Both runners advanced on a ground out. After Chester Kirkwood walked to load the bases, Irwin scored on a sacrifice fly by Jason Davis.

Tamburros 3, Metros 0

YOUNGSTOWN — Keith Jackson scattered four hits with three strikeouts for the win.

Ray Jaminet hit a triple, double and single to pace Tamburro. Jason Savage hit a double and Brent Savage hit two singles. Jim Pasquine hit a pair of singles for Metros.

Tamburro 8, Metros 1

YOUNGSTOWN — Tamburro, leading 3-1, broke open the second game as it scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Jamie Palumbo hit a single and double and drove in three runs for Tamburro. Grant Sevek and Cameron Cimino hit two singles apiece for the Metros.
