Astro Falcons win Class Little b title by beating Rondinelli, 9-8

STRUTHERS — The Astro Falcons defeated Rondinelli Tuxedo, 9-8, Tuesday night at Cene Park to win the Class Little b league championship.

Jared Kirin had three hits with a triple and two doubles to lead Astro, which swept the best-of-5 series, 3-0. Phillip Woods added two doubles while Ryan Rovnack and Tom Cheslik also had two hits each.

Jason Bagoly had three hits, including a homer, for Rondinelli, while Nick Dinello had a triple and single.


STRUTHERS — The Astro Falcons defeated Rondinelli Tuxedo, 5-4 and 7-6, to take a 2-0 lead in the Class Little B League championship series at Cene Park Monday.

Astro pushed across a run in the top of the eighth inning to win the opener, and withstood a seventh-inning rally by Rondinelli to win the nightcap.

Jason Bagoly hit a home run and Nick Dinello added a two-run double, as Rondinelli scored four runs in the fourth inning to take a 4-1 lead.

Astro tied the score in the fifth on a single by Jared Turocy and a two-run double by Shane Wagner.

Wagner had two hits and scored the winning run for Astro, while Mike Natal doubled.

Cory Hill, Kevin McCullough and Nick Dinello all had a pair of hits for Rondinelli.

In the second game Rondinelli scored four runs in the second inning, but Astro scored two in the second and two in the third to tie the game, then struck for three runs in the fifth. Rondinelli scored twice in the seventh but couldn’t get the tying run home.

Wagner hit a two-run double for Astro while Turocy and Mike Natal added two hits and Todd Kibby hit a triple.

Mike Piesto had a two-run single for Rondinelli.

Class B

STRUTHERS — Jake Thomas pitched six innings with a seven-hitter and six strikeouts, to lead Dave Sugar to a 6-4 victory over Livi Steel in the opening game of the playoffs.

Livi had a 3-0 lead in the second inning before Sugar rallied with three runs in the second, one run in the fourth and two runs in the fifth.

Dane Dobson went 4-for-4 with two RBIs for Sugar. Eric Pirtz hit a triple.

Josh Swepis had three hits, including a triple, for Livi.

Rondinelli 2, Simon Roofing 1

STRUTHERS — Rondinelli edged Simon Roofing in the completion of a protested game.

Cory Hitt led Rondinelli with a double.

Rich Tisone had three hits and Mike Vitucci a double for Simon.

Class AA

YOUNGSTOWN — Dom Modarelli and Jim Pasquine had two hits apiece and Joe Irwin scattered four hits over seven innings, as Youngstown Metros defeated Tri-County, 7-1, in a Youngstown Class AA game at Pemberton Park.

Pasquine and Tom Clayton both scored twice, Clayton rapping a triple.

Brandon Skoff had two hits, including a double, for Tri-County.

Mahoning Valley Knights 3

WARREN — CIP scored twice in the bottom of the sixth inning to win a Warren Class AA game at MacGregor Park.

Cliff Panezich, Jeremy Albani and Don Marsh all had two hits for CIP, while Anthony Maruca doubled. Mike Swoboda pitched a complete game with six strikeouts.

Manoli Pahoulis and Andy Todor each went 3-for-4 for the Knights. Todor had a double and two RBIs. Jeremy Hartman struck out six.

Skiffey Neopolitan Dental 0

WARREN — Manoli Pahoulis’ sacrifice fly scored Brett Dutton with the only run of the game with two outs in the bottom of the 11th inning.

Dutton tripled to get in scoring position.

Jim Newbrough had two hits for Skiffey. Steve Liebal pitched the entire game, played over two days, for Skiffey, fanning 13.

Champion Marlins 4

WARREN — Jeff Claar had three hits and Steve Liebal had two doubles as Skiffey scored in the top of the seventh inning.

Mike Hanck added a double and Liebal struck out 10 in a complete game.

Lance Townsend had three hits for Champion, while Eric Nachreiner tripled and Tom Popadak doubled.
