NILES — Charges have been filed against a 38-year-old Campbell man in a fatal crash this weekend.
Steven W. Mayberry of Chamber Street, the driver of one of the vehicles involved, was arraigned Monday on charges of leaving the scene of an accident and resisting arrest.
Municipal Judge Thomas W. Townley set a hearing for July 11 and bond at $7,500.
Mayberry was the driver of a car that collided with a sports utility vehicle, killing his passenger, Kelly Fierman, 29, of Lincoln Avenue, Struthers.
Police traffic investigator John Marhulik said Mayberry was driving his car eastbound on Fenton Street, between Ann Avenue and Scott Street, about 6 p.m. Saturday.
A SUV driven by Hazel Spoljaric, 54, of Carl Street, was westbound on Fenton, went around some parked cars and collided with Mayberry’s car, Marhulik said.
After the crash, the officer said, Mayberry ran off but was taken into custody a short time later.
Fierman was pronounced dead at Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital.
Spoljaric and two passengers in her car were treated at St. Elizabeth. The passengers were the driver’s daughter, Melissa Spoljaric, 21, of North Beverly Avenue, Austintown, and 2-year-old Carter Kigowski of Peffer Street, Niles.
When asked if more charges will be filed, Marhulik said the crash remains under investigation.
