Candy sale
ALLIANCE -- Alliance Community Hospital Auxiliary will hold a candy sale from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday in Conference Room 1-A, off the first floor cafe at the hospital.
Proceeds from the sale of the exclusive chocolate truffles, turtles, cherry cordials, chocolate-covered strawberries, chocolate delights and groumet nuts will be used to enhance the programs at Alliance Community Hospital.
Fundraiser plannedfor MS research
YOUNGSTOWN -- People from the Youngstown/Akron area will participate in a Stride-n-Ride event that will take place Saturday at Youngstown State University as a fundraiser for muscular dystrophy research.
Teams of seven to 10 can be formed, and participants are encouraged to raise at least 63 to sponsor the cost of one minute of MS research. Those raising 126 will receive a ticket to attend a basketball game that evening.
Anyone interested in taking part in the fundraiser may call the MDA office in Akron at (330) 869-0598 for additional information.
The association receives no government grants, nor does it seek or receive fees from the people it serves or their families.
YMCA campaignbegins with spin-a-thon
YOUNGSTOWN -- To kick off the Youngstown YMCA 2007 Partner of Youth Campaign, a spin-a-thon will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the downtown YMCA, 17 N. Champion St.
There will be seven one-hour sessions with 15-minute breaks for 50 in donations or pledges.
There will also be a Chinese auction for the adults and face painting, magic shows and clowns for the children.
All proceeds will benefit the underprivileged youth and families and the special-need population of the community.

Family game day
LIBERTY -- The E.J. Blott Elementary School Relay for Life Team will sponsor its third annual Family Game Day as a benefit for the American Cancer Society from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the multipurpose room at the school, 4115 Shady Road. The cost is 5 for a 10-game/food ticket or 2 for a food-only ticket.
Tickets will be available at the door. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Super Bowl party
NORTH JACKSON -- Western Mahoning County Kiwanis will sponsor a Super Bowl party on Sunday at the North Jackson Administratiive Community Room, 10613 Mahoning Ave. Doors open at 5 p.m., and the game will be on wide-screen television. There will be food and prizes.
The cost is 25, and tickets can be purchased from club members, at the door or by calling Barb Smith, (330) 502-1460.
Friends night
POLAND -- Boardman-Poland Junior Women's League is sponsoring a Silver and Gold Friends Night at 7 p.m. Monday at the Old Stone Tavern Antiques, 121 Main St.
Refreshments will be served, and guests in attendance will have an opportunity to learn about the club's dedication to the community.

Something to wine about
GIRARD -- A wine taste celebrating the opening of the newly remodeled St. Rose Church Hall will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 11 at the church.
The event is limited to 112 persons, and the cost of admission is 45. Tickets are available by calling the rectory at (330) 545-4351. Finger foods and wine tasting will be available, and entertainment will be provided by harpist Kirk Kupensky.
Semiformal attire is required.
Animal benefit
Animal Charity of Ohio has planned a benefit, "For the Love of Animals" from 7 to 11 p.m. Feb. 23 at Cedar's Cafe, 131 W. Commerce St., Youngstown, to help abused and neglected animals.
The evening will include a buffet dinner, cash bar, dancing, a Chinese auction and 50-50 raffle.
