Group of area pupils to head for tour of China

Last year's group went to Australia.
CANFIELD -- A group of more than 30 junior and senior high school pupils from the area are preparing for a 17-day tour of China this summer.
They are the most recent group of People to People Student Ambassadors, a 50-year-old program founded by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1956 to increase understanding and peace among the world's citizens.
These students were nominated by their schools, civic groups, former ambassadors and other sources to represent their communities in a positive and caring way. They provided references from their teachers, were interviewed and will now be meeting monthly to learn group dynamics and more about the places to be visited.
Where tour will stop
Among the stops on the tour will be the Great Wall of China and the TerraCotta Warriors, but the trip will include school and home visits, educational and governmental experiences and a wide variety of food and culture.
Last year's group went to Australia.
The young people are busy doing fund raising to finance their adventure.
