POSSIBLE LOTTERY WINNER: The appointment of state Rep. Kenneth A. Carano of Austintown, D-59th, as the regional director of the Ohio Lottery Commission for the Youngstown area looks exceptionally good. Final word on the appointment will take a few months.
If Carano is appointed, his vacancy will almost assuredly be filled by Mahoning County Recorder Ronald Gerberry, a former Ohio House member who's wanted to return to Columbus for years. The Ohio House Democratic Caucus would make the appointment based on the recommendation of the Mahoning County Democratic Party's executive committee.
The early favorite to replace Gerberry -- a decision made by the Democratic Party's central committee -- is Struthers Councilman Dan Yemma, who unsuccessfully ran for the 60th Ohio House District seat in last year's primary.
