The Republican quote machine
In Ted Strickland's inaugural address today, he said only through bipartisanship can the state move forward. Apparently the Lisbon Democrat felt the need to begin that process right away.
Strickland quoted two Republican presidents, Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush.
"To paraphrase something that President George W. Bush said while governor of Texas, 'Education is to the state as national defense is to the survival of the nation.' " Strickland somewhat smirked, perhaps waiting for a reaction after saying Bush's name, but there was't much of one from the audience.
The quote from Reagan was "the term 'status quo' is Latin for 'the current mess we're in.' " While the Reagan name drew no reaction, the quote was greeted with cheers from the audience and followed by a wink from Strickland.
