Seminars help prepare kids for kindergarten

STRUTHERS -- The Mahoning South Catholic Schools Leadership Team will have two seminars on "How to Prepare Your Child for Kindergarten" for communities in the south deanery.
The first session will be 6:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Nicholas School, 762 Fifth St., Struthers, and the second will be at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 24 at St. Luke School, 5225 South Ave., Boardman.
The sessions are open to all parents and teachers and principals of the Mahoning South Catholic Schools will be on hand to assist parents in making the transition from home or preschool to kindergarten.
The theory is that the more informed and active the parent is, the better the experience is for their child.
Teachers will discuss social and academic readiness, age requirements, motor skills and other areas of interest in the hourlong sessions.
Schools begin accepting kindergarten registrations this month for the 2007-08 school year and many offer all-day kindergarten programs.
The Mahoning South Catholic Schools are Holy Family, St. Charles, St. Luke and St. Nicholas.
