Coffee is weapon in holdup

YOUNGSTOWN – A thief used a cup of coffee Saturday to rob a West Side convenience store.

The cashier at Valley View Gas, 1822 Mahoning Ave., told police a man walked in about 7 a.m. and made himself a cup of coffee.

When he went to the counter, he threw the hot coffee on the cashier, reached over the counter and grabbed an undisclosed amount of cash from the register and fled out the front door.

Another employee in a back room at the time heard the commotion and ran outside to see the robber flee in a red-colored car.
