School district blocks newspaper Web site

GIRARD -- Students in Girard schools might be able to access the news on while at home, but they can no longer access that information while at school.
Superintendent Joseph Jeswald said The Vindicator Web site has been entered into the school's system that filters out undesirable Web sites. The site was entered into the system Monday.
"We have a filter on our computers and there are certain sites our students just shouldn't be on during class time," he said.
Jeswald said there is nothing wrong with students reading the newspaper. The schools, he said, actually use the newspaper in some classes. He said school officials are trying to stop students from blogging or reading and participating in message boards on the site during school hours.
Jeswald said teachers can ask to have the site unblocked for a specific time if they would like to use it in some part of the teaching process.
