Mercer workers get raises

MERCER, Pa. — Mercer County commissioners plan to give wage increases of 1.1 percent to elected officials and professional and administrative employees when they meet today.

Nonunion technical, clerical and support staff will receive a 20-cent-per-hour raise retroactive to Jan. 1, and 25 additional cents in July.

Officials said the raises given to the nonunion employees are below those given to the union employees who averaged a 2.5 percent increase for 2007.

In 2006, employees received raises averaging 2.8 percent.
