Howland hands Poland first MAC defeat, 60-34
POLAND -- Senior Ellie Shields scored 17 points to lead the Howland High girls basketball team, which handed Poland its first loss in the Metro Athletic Conference on Wednesday, upending the Bulldogs 60-34.
Alexa Williams added 12 points for the Tigers (8-2, 3-1), who took a 34-12 halftime lead.
Kasey Eckman scored eight points for Poland (6-4, 3-1).
East Liverpool 57, Struthers 54
STRUTHERS -- Erratic scoring cost Struthers a 12-point halftime lead.
A 28-point second quarter atoned for a seven-point first period, but Struthers (3-7, 0-4 MAC) dipped back to score only seven points in the third period before leveling off by adding 12 to finish.
Kat Ammon and Brittany Tomaselli had 14 points apiece for the Potters (6-4, 3-2), while juniors Ashley Galbraith and Halle Minchin-Skook both had 16 points for the Wildcats.
Salem 56, Campbell 10
CAMPBELL -- Leah Perry scored 14 points, while Amy Scullion added 12 for Salem (8-2) in a Metro Athletic Conference game. Campbell is 0-9.
West Branch 54, Carrollton 28
CARROLLTON -- Sam Cox scored nine points and Amanda Stiffler added eight as West Branch (7-3, 6-1) used a balanced offensive attack to defeat Carrollton in a Northeastern Buckeye Conference game. Ten different players scored for West Branch.
Katy Fox had 13 points and 10 rebounds for Carrollton (1-11, 1-7).
Southeast 54, Akron Springfield 22
AKRON -- Lindsay Speidal scored 20 points and Hannah Homer added 10 for the Pirates, who outscored the Spartans 32-9 in the second half to pull away in a Portage Trail Conference game.
