Ellwood City walking trail to be repaired

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — A $100,000 Growing Greener Grant would help repair a well-used Ellwood City walking trail.

Lawrence County commissioners are expected to vote next week to ask the state to release the money for the project. The money had been designated for the county, but not for a specific project.

The trail in Ewing Park was built in the 1930s by the Works Project Administration and is adjacent to the Connoquenessing Creek.

Recent drainage problems have started to erode some of the trail.

Commissioner Steve Craig asked that the state be contacted to check on the amount of time it will take to release the funds.

He said commissioners authorized Growing Greener grant money for another project more than a year ago, and no funds have been released.

Ellwood City borough will contribute about $40,000 to the project.
