Slippery surface: The new turf laid down after last week's Fiesta Bowl was a little slippery. Anthony Gonzalez slipped twice on one drive and Florida's receivers were experiencing problems keeping their footing.
High-scoring: Florida's 34 points in the first half were the most scored by the Gators this season. The 48 points combined tied for the most in a BCS championship game, equaling the 2005 USC-Oklahoma game (the Trojans led, 38-10).
Ginn's lone shining moment: Ted Ginn Jr.'s 93-yard kickoff return in the first quarter was the seventh return for a touchdown in a BCS championship game but the first kickoff return for a score. And it was the fastest first score in the title game; the previous record came last year, when USC's LenDale White scored on a 4-yard run with 2 minutes, 33 seconds elapsed.
