Girard man robbed at gunpoint

GIRARD — A city man told police that a late-night trip to a local convenience store ended with an attempted armed robbery and threat on his life.

The 24-year-old man told police he was walking from a house on Elruth Avenue to a store on East Liberty Street Sunday night and took a shortcut through the Kiwanis Field.

According to police reports, the man was heading toward the dugout on the west side of the ball field when he noticed a gold-colored Escalade and a white Grand Am near the dugout. The man told police that as he walked past the vehicles, a black male got of the Escalade holding a gun.

The man told police he was frisked, made to empty his pockets, then ordered to kneel on the ground.

The victim said he was then told to run away and not look back. He ran to the fire station where police were called. Officers, accompanied by the man, returned to the park where the man’s keys and hat were still lying on the ground.
