Cops arrest pistol-packing Poland man

STRUTHERS — A Poland man was scheduled to appear in Municipal Court Wednesday on weapons charges after being arrested at 11:05 p.m. Monday at the South Bridge Billiards, 162 S. Bridge St., with two pistols and a box cutter knife in his possession.

Police, alerted that the suspect, Peter M. Abbas, 36, of Clovermead Avenue, Poland, was carrying a gun, found a .25-caliber gun strapped around his left leg. They also recovered a fully loaded .357-Magnum revolver, with two speed loaders, in the pocket of Abbas’ jacket, which was on a bar stool in another part of the tavern from where he was sitting. A speed loader is a device that permits the user to reload all six cylinders at once.

Abbas, who was arrested without incident, was held in the Mahoning County Justice Center without bond until his arraignment. Abbas is charged with using weapons while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, and illegal possession of a firearm in a place with a liquor permit, a felony.
