Ministry offers special-needs training

NEW WATERFORD -- The Guardian Angels Special Needs Ministry at East Fairfield United Methodist Church, 45675 state Route 558, will offer its next training session Jan. 16 at the church on the topic, "Behavior Focused Individualized Educational Plan -- How Parents Can Help the IEP Team."
The session will give parents the understanding of special-needs behaviors. It is geared to families, caregivers, teachers and professionals, and focuses on children with disabilities from birth to age 9.
The training, provided by the Family Information Network and the Ohio Coalition for the Education of Children with Disabilities, can be counted for mandatory foster parent training hours.
Dinner will be from 6 to 6:30 p.m. followed by the training until 8:30. Child care will be available.
Guardian Angels ministry is designed for anyone who has a child with an illness, injury, or handicap of any kind and is open to families with children of all age groups. The group is open to biological, foster and adoptive parents from all surrounding counties.
Guardian Angels also offers a support group that meets from 6 to 8 p.m. the first Tuesday of the month. Participants can learn how to cope with a child with special needs.
